Site
This site provides resources for owners, architects, engineers, construction managers, contractors and commissioning providers.
Building commissioning is a process able to adapt to the needs of the building and the owner. Its abilities range from testing systems for conformance with the specified design to helping O&M departments identify and then verify that their energy initiatives and programs are being properly implemented.

The Expanding World of Commissioning
Commissioning is a rapidly growing field, that uses a variety of approaches to the commissioning process. Some approaches are more formal and paper-intensive, while others are less formal and more field intensive.
Commissioning has the flexibility to serve the varied needs of the owner, ranging from the more thorough documentation requirements of a pharmaceutical facility, to process-driven LEED commissioning, to retrocommissioning.
Whether focused on design, testing, performance, energy or Operations and Maintenance (O&M) needs, the commissioning industry offers a wide variety of services. From its early beginnings less than 20 years ago, its membership has worked to standardize and clarify its processes and activities. As a result of an industry-wide effort to set and maintain high standards, the Commissioning Authority has become a valued asset to projects, whether new or existing.
Training and the Future
A mounting need is education. Commissioning personnel typically come from the world of design or from field application backgrounds (controls, testing and balancing, etc.). They bring a varied world of experience that takes many years to develop. As the existing workforce ages and nears retirement, the need to develop educational resources to train a new commissioning workforce is growing increasingly apparent.
The end result of commissioning should be focused on what the customer wants and needs. Helping the entire construction and O&M team meet those expectations is one of commissioning’s main values.
